Speaker: Jeff Gorter, MSW, LCSW, is VP of Crisis Response Services at R3 Continuum. Mr. Gorter brings over 30 years of clinical experience including consultation and extensive on-site critical incident response to businesses and communities. He has responded directly to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina, the Virginia Tech shootings, the Deepwater Horizon Oil spill, the earthquake/tsunami in Japan, the Newtown Tragedy, the Orlando Pulse Nightclub Shooting and the Las Vegas Shooting. He has conducted trainings and presented at the American Psychological Association Annual Conference, the World Conference on Disaster Management, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Annual Meeting, Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) Annual World Conference and at other state, national and international venues on a variety of topics.
Program Description: Between mass shootings, natural disasters, and increased suicide rates, recent years have seen an unprecedented number of workplace tragedies across the US – and Employee Assistance Professionals have been on the frontlines of them all. While delivering resilience-focused care and compassion is a core skill for many of us, effective self-care often falls lower on the priority list, especially during a large-scale disruptive event, and that can limit the quality of our service as well as creating unnecessary personal challenges. This presentation will briefly review some of the recent national scope crisis events, explore current research on compassion fatigue, and consider compassion satisfaction as a model for sustainable care among EAP Professionals. An interactive discussion on the ProQOL self-assessment tool will be facilitated, along with suggested self-care strategies.
9:00-9:45 am: Business Meeting
In order to comply with CE guidelines, we will need to monitor your engagement in the program for the entire duration of the webinar from 10 am - 12 pm. We will do this by taking periodic polls throughout the presentation as well as monitoring engagement via the zoom software. The software can detect if you are engaging on other platforms during the meeting such as answering emails, checking social media, perusing Amazon, etc. At the end of the meeting, a report showing each person's log in and out time, polling answers and their percentage of engagement will be collected and shared with the credentialing body.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at NIEAPA@CorpEvent.com or call 312-756-7756.
