In this seminar, suicide among compulsive gamblers will be explored. Suicide among this demographic is the highest for any other group. There will be a look at the risk and protective factors for suicide. There will be an overview of the prevalence rates and treatment strategies for those people in this population.
PRESENTATION OBJECTIVES:
- Identify risk & protective factors for suicide for people with a Gambling Disorder (GD)
- Summarize the statistics of suicide rates
- Describe prevention and treatment strategies for dealing with high risk clients.

Michael Goldman, MA, CEAP, LPC, CRADC, PCGC, SAP
Michael Goldman, M.A. has been a trainer and certified addictions counselor (CRADC) for the past 39 years and certified employee assistance program (CEAP) counselor the past 34 years. He is also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), and a certified Problem and Compulsive Gambling Counselor (PCGC). As a trainer, he has developed and implemented over 4,700 hours of wellness programs. This includes stress management, conflict resolution, nutrition/fitness, time management, financial management, chemical dependency awareness, anger management, sexual harassment, smoking cessation, compulsive gambling, bullying in the workplace, mindfulness based stress reduction, suicide, autism and cultural diversity.
