Addressing Internalized Stigma in the LGBTQIA+ Population (2.0 CEUs)

In this presentation, participants will explore information regarding internalized stigma, or what many still call internalized homophobia. Many of the LGBTQIA+ folks seeking services have at some point or are currently struggling with how they view themselves within a world that does not view them the same way. This can present itself in a variety of ways and is often not brought up in therapeutic intervention. This presentation will offer supports in doing just that in both short term and long term interventions through an ACT framework. This presentation will allow participants to:

  • Understand the history of Internalized Homophobia and the research to support the term Internalized stigma
  • Learn ways to bring the topic into the therapeutic space that promotes healing
  • Receive an overview of the ACT framework and how ACT conceptualizes Internalized Stigma
  • Discover techniques to assist clients in diving into dismantling their own internalized stigma
  • Learn more about what you can do outside of the sessions to support LGBTQIA+ people living "lives worth living."
