This presentation will give an overview of addiction and co-occurring mental health needs of women in treatment settings. We will review the neurobiology of addiction and trauma, their overlap, and their association with mood, eating, and anxiety disorders in women. We will focus specifically on racial in equalities in addiction care, racial trauma, and a demonstration group highlighting an antiracist clinical approach.

PRESENTATION OBJECTIVES:

  • Audience will be able to understand the basic neurobiology of addiction and understand the illness as a disease.
  • Participants will be able to identify prevalence of co-occurring eating disorders and trauma in women with addiction.
  • Participants will identify race-based gaps in health equity as it applies to addiction treatment.
